As students in the U.S. are heading back to school, we are gearing up for the final school term in Uganda and North Texas’s Get up and Give Day.
On Thursday, September 19th between 7am and midnight, Empower African Children has a great opportunity to raise money to provide scholarships to Ugandan students. All donations of $25 and above given to Empower African Children through on September 19th will be multiplied by a pool of funds from the Communities Foundation of Texas.
Why “get up and give” on September 19th? You will help open the door to opportunity and truly change the life of a student in Uganda.
When we think of a scholarship, we typically think of an academic education. A scholarship from Empower African Children means academics and much, much more! While our students get a quality education from excellent secondary schools and universities in Uganda, the education they receive outside the classroom is just as important.
The last few weeks provide a perfect example. While on a break between school terms, our students have been busy participating in various activities, including:
- Guest speakers on careers and professional development
- Individualized guidance counseling sessions
- Community service at a local orphanage
- Creative writing workshops
- Dance and musical training with Spirit of Uganda
Our secondary scholars will begin their final term of the school year next week. As they continue to work hard and dream big, we hope you will mark your calendars to Get up and Give and help us continue to provide scholarships for Africa’s future leaders!
