![]() About UsNewsCatch the Spirit! Empower African Children Presents The National Tour of "Spirit of Uganada"February 01, 2008 Spirit of Uganda, a joyous celebration of life, will tour the U.S. bringing the dances of East Africa and songs of hope performed by a vibrant cast of young performers ages 8-22. The Spirit of Uganda tour will raise funds to increase the global awareness of Africa's AIDS epidemic and help raise funds to eucate some of the region's most vulnerable children. The cast oscillates between ferocity and softness as they bring to life the sounds and movements of East Africa and Uganda. The company, which has received raves and accolades in every major city, plays a variety of drums, harps, flutes and xylophones and performs dances from a number of regions throughout Uganda and surrounding countries including Rwand, Congo, Tanzania and Kenya and sings in several different languages. The 22 young performers represent the promise, hope and potential of the youth of Uganda; 2.4 million of whom are orphans of HIV/AIDS, civil war and acute poverty. Through their performances, educational programs and community exchanges on tour, these goodwill ambassadors share their stories in the USA, promoting the culture of their homeland and increasing the awareness of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa. They are thriving proof of the transformative power of art, and of what is possible when children are provided with resources to succeed.
