![]() About UsNewsSharing the stage with Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Sharon Stone and Cirque du SoleilSeptember 1, 2007 On stage with Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Sharon Stone and Cirque du Soleil, our Spirit of Uganda troupe performs at Macy's Passport 25th Anniversary galas in San Francisco (Sept 18-20) and Los Angeles (Sept 27-28). Spirit of Uganda will share the stage with the world's top fashion models and celebrities in events that benefit AIDS organizations. Macy's has invited Spirit of Uganda, of which many of the performers have been orphaned by AIDS, to perform and represent the global AIDS pandemic as well as entertain audiences with their high-spirited dancing, drumming, and singing. "We are so honored to be included in an event of this magnitude with a partner as generous as Macy's," said Alexis Hefley, Executive Director of Empower African Children. "The children possess so much grace, beauty, and dignity - I have no doubt that they will bring the audience to their feet and contribute to a message of hope to this amazing event." These events also mark the release of Transcendent Spirit, a beautiful and stirring large-format book by photojournalist Douglas Menuez about the children supported by Empower African Children, Alexis Hefley and Peter Kasule. Underwritten by Macy's Passport, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Empower African Children. Click here for more information on Macy's Passport or Spirit of Uganda. |
